Pioneering technology
Mizutani is passionate about optimizing design and finding new technologies to create high-quality scissors. Hirokazu Mizutani thus managed to use a pioneering nanotechnology that revolutionized the scissor market.

"When we received an unmarked pair of scissors from Mizutani in 2011 to test 'incognito' on the German market, we internally named it the Erlkönig," explains Edina and Michael Peterli of Mizutani Europe about the start of this incredible project with Mizutani Japan together. Since then, many models of scissors from Japan have been produced specifically for the European market due to the different cutting techniques.

Therefore, a series of tests in German salons was essential. For several months, 10-15 haircuts per day should be performed before considering the load on the scissors. “Recently, testers sent their scissors in for evaluation. Despite the long wait, the result surprised us: despite hard continuous use, the scissors did not lose their original sharpness. There were almost no nicks/scratches on these blades. This also means less hair damage.

A “Nano-Powder-Metal” steel is responsible for the fantastic result, which is melted and pressed from the smallest particles of 0.000000001 m in size (this corresponds to two thousandths of the width of a hair). The result is this indescribable material quality.

Additionally, these test shears featured a steeper cutting edge angle for extreme sharpness and a significantly improved cutting image. Engineer Dr. Kentaro Asakura of the University of Tokyo tested and confirmed all of these. Hirokazu Mizutani could not have given the hairdressers a greater gift. Domo arigato!
OUR HISTORY
In the heart of Tokyo, Hirokazu Mizutani's grandfather, Yorigi Mizutani, as a professional hairdresser, started manufacturing barber scissors in a small place. For him, the products available on the market at the time were simply not good enough. Initially, he made them for himself. Soon, a small but quality scissor brand grew out of this manufacturing plant. The "Mizutani scissors" was born! Later, the grandfather handed over the production to his son, Motokazu Mizutani. They convinced him to work as a pre-manufacturer for other companies because of the higher demand and bigger market.
So he was able to concentrate completely on the scissors and their quality, but soon he completely lost touch with the hairdressers. The pressure from customers became more and more intense. As a result, it gradually lost its independence as a scissor manufacturer and became a supplier to others. Then his eldest son, Hirokazu Mizutani, also expressed an interest in his father's craft business. He knew the production plant from a very young age - it was his playground, one might say.
This interest grew day by day. At the age of 39, Hirokazu Mizutani took over his father's company on one condition: he wanted to sell his products to hairdressers himself! His hunger for design and quality was immense. Soon the small company became a scissor manufacturer with a reputation in Japan for its quality scissors. Three years later, in 2001, we joined Mizutani Scissors World. A mutual friend from Tokyo drew our attention to Hirokazu Mizutani. At the time, this type of barber scissors was already an insider tip in Japan.
Our friend Hirokazu Mizutani visited us in Baden-Baden to present his scissors. It was noticeable that the scissors were sold without a brand name. Hirokazu Mizutani responded to our surprise this way: “Why a brand? It's enough if our scissors are good!" This is unthinkable these days! They also noticed that the scissors were not suitable for the European market due to their proportions. The cutting blades were too long, the eyes too small. This is because the cutting techniques are different in Japan. We were intrigued and Hirokazu Mizutani wanted to know everything. From then on, communication was constant. We knew the European hairdressing market well and knew what was in demand, after all, we can look back on 15 years of experience with Japanese hairdressing scissors.
With the help of many German hairdressers such as Thorsten Hussfeld, Peter Hartmann, Christian Sieferlinger, Olaf Krebs, Klaus Späth, Marco Budzinski, KD Kaiser and many others, we tested, checked, evaluated and criticized. Every comment, no matter how small, was taken seriously. We searched and found the right steel for our needs and the perfect design. Even Edina Peterli's wish for a pair of scissors made of noble rolled damask steel was fulfilled. Mizutani scissors were already ready for the European market. The following years were characterized by continuous innovation. Hirokazu Mizutani brilliantly solved every challenge we presented. Meanwhile, Mizutani has received many industry awards for quality and design in Japan. We were still in the early days in Germany, but we were always thinking laterally and questioning our work. So it was only a matter of time before people living in the country became aware of Mizutani scissors. In 2011, the time had come. The collection full of creative and innovative scissors is revolutionizing the world market for hairdressing scissors. The interest of hairdressers in Germany was overwhelming, and our scissors flew to the 1st place in Salonstar 2011. That this victory was justified was confirmed by the renewed 1st place of the following year 2012. Hirokazu Mizutani and we exceeded all expectations. It's time to thank all the hairdressers who made Mizutani a star.
